I know this place has been fairly quiet for a VERY long time! But no longer! I have finally got myself organized enough to get things sorted out and in place to finally have a working website. And wouldn't you know it, a built-in way to have both a website and blog in one place!
I have had this website for several years now, and it had remained a lonely splash page linking to my social media presence. Since the beginning of the new year (2017), I have been working on creating a functional website to showcase my work and open up another avenue for clients to find me and communicate. This splash page had become a nagging voice in my head, saying get your act together and get a REAL website. My clients have also gently pushed for me to get something real up here since it makes things so much easier when talking about and showing work.
Since I was working on finally getting my personal brand out there, I also thought it was time for a change. You may have noticed that my business name has changed. Larochelle Photography & Design had a good run, I did freelance for 5 years under that name. After that much time though, I have come to a better understanding of what my clients want and need, and also what I love working on. So I have re-focused my services and rebranded to fit that. That being said, I no longer offer photography services, opting to keep that just as a personal hobby.
My photography blog will no longer be updated and eventually shut down, but don't fret - I still want to do this blog thing! In working on the rebrand, I toyed with the idea of switching to Wordpress to try again with the blog. When I first got into the blog game, Blogspot was where I took my baby steps. I feel it doesn't really suit my needs anymore though, I've outgrown it. So I got a nice surprise while working on my website. My lonely little splash page of a website has been all I ever needed this whole time! So I am putting the blog platform research to bed, and moving forward with my website/blog. I have done quite a bit of research on blog platforms though and don't want that to go to waste, so I might save that for a future blog post or maybe revisit it after I have used this system for a while. It has been a really fun journey so far! I've come across some great resources for getting your blog game in check, and am hoping with this inspiration I can follow through and get this blog going the way I want it to.
So what kind of content can you expect? The plan is to post semi-regularly (TBD) about current events in the design field, helpful tips that will make the freelancer-client experience fun and enjoyable, book reviews, new work, designers/illustrators that inspire me, design education, random things I have been thinking about...the list can, and probably will, go on! By adding some variety and interesting topics, I'm hoping to make this place an enjoyable read, and somewhere that both you AND I will want to come back to.
Thanks for reading, and hope to see you here again soon!
